The General Committee meeting convened at the hour of 12:21 PM with Deputy Mayor Jack Heath as Chair.

1.         EDUCATION OR TRAINING SESSION
-BUILDING MARKHAM’S FUTURE TOGETHER (BMFT) (16.23)

            Schedule     Presentation

 

Andy Taylor, Chief Administrative Officer addressed the Committee and staff providing opening remarks.  He also provided a brief recap of the three previous BMFT sessions.

 

Jim Baird, Commissioner of Development Services delivered a PowerPoint presentation regarding "Safe and Sustainable Community."

 

Staff and General Committee members were divided into three groups to discuss and obtain feedback by responding to questions relative to the key action of "Safe and Sustainable Community."

 

Commissioners Trinela Cane, Brenda Librecz and Jim Baird provided a summary of the results of their break-out session.

 

Mohammed Hosseini-Ara, Director of Culture delivered a PowerPoint presentation relative to the public consultation process regarding Building Markham Future Together.

 

The Committee suggested that staff provide Members of Council a template with the information regarding BMFT and presentation materials that Council members can share with their constituents.  There was discussion regarding the importance of ensuring residents understand the legislation regarding growth requirements.  There was discussion regarding a City survey as a way to engage the public.

 

Commissioner Trinela Cane delivered a PowerPoint presentation outlining the need to ensure that the City is fiscally prudent and efficient.

 

Staff and General Committee members discussed questions relative to ensuring that the City is fiscally prudent and efficient.

 

Andy Taylor, Chief Administrative Officer addressed the Committee and staff and provided closing remarks.  He indicated that prior to going out to the public, staff will bring a summary of these sessions to Council to ensure everything discussed and suggested was captured appropriately.
