RECOMMENDATION:
That the report entitled “2003 Silver Dolphin Award”
be received;
And that Council recognize Christin Sadler of the Markham Aquatic Club as the 2003 Silver Dolphin Award winner based on her outstanding accomplishments.
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this report is to recommend the
recipient for the 2003 Silver Dolphin Award.
BACKGROUND:
The Silver Dolphin Award is given annually to an
individual(s) or a team that has demonstrated outstanding accomplishments in
aquatics. Athletes and coaches are
eligible either through performance or long-term contribution. The awards include two levels of outstanding
accomplishments. These are:
· Recognition of outstanding
accomplishments at the local and provincial level;
· Recognition of outstanding
accomplishments at the national and international level.
The nomination committee consists of the President
(or designate) from each community club -- Markham Aquatic Club, Markham
Synchronized Swimming Club, Markham Diving Club and the Markham Masters Swim
Club. The nominating committee
recommends the following recipients.

Provincial Level Award Recipient

National/International
Level Award Recipient
CHRISTIN
SADLER was ranked 8th in Canada for her Age
Group category. She was a finalist in six events at the Canadian Junior
National Championships. Christin qualified for one of the largest international
meets in the world, the Grand Prix International at the University of Michigan.
At this meet Christin set two club records and qualified for the finals in the
backstroke event. Christin also participated in the Santa Clara International
Meet in California and competed in three final events. Christin finished her
season with a winning a bronze medal at the Eastern Cup Championship Meet in
Montreal. This event is the second most prestigious meet in Canada after the
National Championships.
CONCLUSION:
Not only is this years recipient accomplishing outstanding achievements in her sport, she is an excellent role models for her peers and younger athletes.
COMMENTS
It is
recommended that the presentation of the 2003 Silver Dolphin Award take place
at the February 24, 2004, Council meeting.
