ADMINISTRATION

The Town of Markham Race Relations Committee recommends:

That the Minutes of the Town of Markham Race Relations Committee meeting held on May 3, 2004, be received.

Mr. J. Godschalk objected to the inclusion of the apology by Councillor K. Usman as recorded in the minutes of the May 3, 2004 meeting. In his opinion, the apology was unwarranted and did not reflect his feelings on the matter. It was agreed to discuss the matter further with the Clerk’s Department.

Following discussion with the Clerk’s Department, the minutes of the May 3, 2004 meeting will not be amended as they accurately record the proceedings.

Mr. G. Sajan expressed concern over the possible lack of cross-cultural membership on the Committee. Deputy Mayor Scarpitti outlined the selection process and called on all members to encourage people in their areas to participate. He also stressed that Council’s aim during the selection process was to get fair representation from across the Town.  Deputy Mayor Scarpitti requested that this item be placed on the next agenda and that the membership list, with terms of office, be discussed.
