April 25 - Launch of Sesquicentennial Year

April 25th Tea Party opening of "Tribute to Kathleen McKay" exhibition at the Varley.  Stories of founding of Markham linked to her story as well as the Group of Seven story.  Small publication developed in English and Chinese.  Oral histories have started to be collected support the exhibition and editorial coverage.

 

June 4-6 Unionville Festival

Unionville Festival weekend, 35th anniversary of the Festival

July 1 Canada Day

July 1st Canada celebrations by the Town and in Unionville, launch of four-day opening of "William Berczy: Man of Enlightenment" exhibition at Varley; original composition of music by Howard Cable will be premiered by a school orchestra.

 

July 2-4 Reesor Family Reunion – 200 years

Events at fairgrounds and heritage sites

 

July 4-9 Berczy Settlers Reunion – 210 years

July 4th Berczy Settlers Family Reunion – re-enactments included, Markham wide

 

July/August animateurs

Students hired to be on Main St. and in the Gallery to tell stories.  Local historians Mr. And Mrs. Denby preparing story material to use.
