RECOMMENDATION:
That
Council approve a grant of $3,000.00 to sponsor a lunch or reception at the
“Sustainable Energy in Ontario – A Path Forward” workshop to be held Tuesday
June 15, 2004.
BACKGROUND:
On June 15, 2004, a workshop entitled
“Sustainable Energy in Ontario – A Path Forward” will be held in Toronto at the
Liberty Grand (CNE Grounds). Distinguished speakers will provide information on
the benefits of conservation, renewable energy and the advantages of
integrating these into strategies for building, renewal and development. A
number of case studies will be discussed and there will be opportunities to
view new technologies in urban wind, solar and earth (geothermal) energy.
With a $3,000 sponsorship grant, the Town of
Markham would join the City of Toronto, Environment Canada and the Consulate
General of the Netherlands as joint sponsors of the workshop.
FINANCIAL CONSIDERATIONS:
$3000 to be provided from
the Council Promotion account for sponsorship of the “Sustainable Energy in
Ontario – A Path Forward” workshop.
