The Thornhill Subcommittee convened at 3:10 p.m. with Councillor E. Shapero in the Chair.

1.         Minutes

 

The Minutes of the Thornhill Subcommittee meeting held April 6, 2004 were reviewed. A motion to amend the minutes was lost.

 

 

2.         Correspondence

 

The Chair noted that correspondence had been receivd from Ira Kagan, dated May 19, 2004, regarding the Minutes of the April 6, 2004 Thornhill Subcommittee meeting, and directed that it be provided to the Committee.

3.         Presentation by Times Group

 

Lee Parson gave a presentation on "Markham's Employment Land Needs and the Role of Leitchcroft". A copy of the presentation was provided to the Committee.

 

Myron Boltman gave a presentation on "Market Analysis and Assessment of Industrial and Office Employment Land Uses within the Leitchcroft Planning District". Committee requested a copy of the report be provided.

 

Lengthy discussions followed, including topics dealing with appropriate development and marketability of the lands, whether the proposal would compromise employment lands and economic growth prospects for Markham, live and work aspects of Smart Growth, road network and access points, and community involvement. A Community Working Group has been established.

 

Staff advised that an OMB pre-hearing trial is set for June 14, and that the applicant has agreed not to request a hearing date be set at that time.

 

Committee reviewed the directive that had referred this matter to the Subcommittee, and considered whether enough progress has been made to continue towards negotiations. A motion to return this matter back to Council was lost.
