RECOMMENDATION:
THAT
Council approve financial support, in the amount of $5,000.00, for the 2005
Chinese New Year Celebration that will be held Saturday, February 12, 2005.
PURPOSE:
To request Council’s financial support for the 2005 Chinese New Year Celebration.
BACKGROUND:
The Town Clerk has received a letter, dated November 25, 2004, addressed to Regional Councillor Heath from Mr. James Wong, Chairman of the Chinese New Year 2005 Organizing Committee requesting financial support in the amount of $12,500.00 to assist in the hosting of the 2005 Chinese New Year Celebration. Attached, as Appendix “A”, is his request.
In 2004, the group was funded $5000.00. The recommended funding for this event in the proposed 2005 Grants budget to be approved by Council in the Celebrate Markham category is $5000.00. Staff is recommending that Council continue to support the Chinese New Year Celebration at the same level as 2004.
