Naming the Unionville Gala an Official Town Event

 

 


 

 

RECOMMENDATION:

 

THAT the report dated June 28, 2005 entitled “Naming the Unionville Gala an Official Town Event” be received.

 

AND THAT the Unionville Gala be recognized as an “Official Town Event” as define in the Town’s Policy, “Policy for issuance of official tax receipts for income tax purposes”.

                                                                   

PURPOSE:

To recognize the Unionville Gala as an “Official Town Event” as define in the Town’s Policy, “Policy for issuance of official tax receipts for income tax purposes”.

 

BACKGROUND:

To qualify as an official Town Event, the Event must meet the definition requirements setout in the Town’s Policy “Policy for issuance of official tax receipts for income tax purposes”, as stated below.

 

Official Town Event Definition

 “An Official Town Event” is an event approved by Council and supported by a Committee of Council or designated Councillor, where the proceeds will be directed to an existing, or future, Town asset and the Town controls the event’s spending.

 

The report must include:

a) a request for the event to be classified as an “Official Town Event”

b) a detailed budget

c) the Town asset benefiting from the event

d) identification/approval of the Committee of Council or appointment of the Councillor

designate on the Committee supporting or organizing the event

 

A follow-up report must be submitted to Council highlighting material variances and the

net contribution amount to the Town.

 

Budget

The 2005 Unionville Gala Preliminary Budget is detailed in the attached Appendix “A” document.

 

Funds Raised

The theme for the 2005 Unionville Gala is “Gardens of Unionville”, it is anticipated, based on the submitted budget, that the Gala will raise $50,000 this year. The funds raised will support improvements to the gardens at the McKay Art Centre and the Fred Varley Parkette. The funding will be prioritized first to the McKay Art Centre garden and secondly to the Fred Varley Parkette. 

 

Committee Members

The 2005 Unionville Gala Committee includes Ward 3 Councillor, Joseph Virgilio and various members of the Community and Town Staff.
