SUBJECT: |
Audio Streaming |
|
|
RECOMMENDATION:
That
the report of the Town Clerk, entitled “Audio Streaming” dated
PURPOSE:
To
determine acceptance from Members of Council of the publication of the audio recordings
of previous Standing Committee and Council meeting proceedings on the Town’s
webpage.
BACKGROUND:
In
May 2004, Council approved funds for the implementation of Internet audio
streaming technology for Standing Committee meetings and Council. The existing procedural by-law provides for
the audio streaming over the website.
Currently,
previous Committee and Council minutes are being maintained on the Town’s
webpage.
OPTIONS/DISCUSSION:
Audio
streaming has proven successful. It
provides greater public access to the committee and Council meetings. In addition, it produces certain efficiencies
through staff listening in and being aware of when they are required to be
present at meetings. Audio streaming is
also sold on CD Rom to external individuals, primarily law firms.
Because
the Standing Committee and Council meeting minutes are being maintained on the
Town’s website, the logical next step would be to include the audio streaming
of the meetings.
FINANCIAL CONSIDERATIONS:
None
ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS:
None
ACCESSIBILITY CONSIDERATIONS:
Web
streaming and access to web streaming of former Committee and Council meetings
provides for easy access to information and the decision-making process to the
public, especially those that may have difficulties in attending meetings.

Engage 21st organizational values and service principles
include innovation…continually
striving to develop and apply new ideas, products and services, technologies
and skills.
Engage 21st also identifies the Town’s corporate goals of organizational excellence…to achieve
excellence in managing and delivering quality services through quality people.
The
proposed service would assist in the recognition, promotion and strengthening the sense of community.
