SUBJECT:	Buttonville Airport Community Committee Appointees

RECOMMENDATIONS:

That the report entitled “Buttonville Airport Community Committee Appointees” be received,

And that the following membership of the Buttonville Airport Community Committee be confirmed by Council: Regional Councillor Jim Jones, Ward 6 Councillor Dan Horchik, G. Semlyen, A. Sikorski, and J. Scholz

DISCUSSION:

The Buttonville Airport Community Committee (BACC) serves as an advisory regarding noise complaints, and is encouraged to voice its collective experiences with the airport and to look at ways in which the Committee can keep relations between the airport and the community positive and strong. The Committee is chaired by Mr. Milt Farrow, and meets 8-10 times a year. The Town of Markham is formally represented on the Committee by Regional Councillor Jim Jones and Ward 6 Councillor Dan Horchik. The Town’s Director of Economic Development, Stephen Chait, serves as secretary to the Committee. A copy of the Committee’s terms of reference and a copy of the meeting minutes from the November 19, 2003 and February 4, 2004 meetings are enclosed.

At its meeting on April 14, 2004 the BACC ratified its membership for the three year period coinciding with the 3-year term of municipal Council. In order to insure the Town of Markham appointed representatives under the Town’s insurance policy covering all Town Advisory Committees, Markham Council is requested to confirm the following appointees to the BACC:

Regional Councillor Jim Jones, Ward 6 Councillor Dan Horchik, Georgetta Semlyen, Alex Sikorski, and John Scholz

Ms Semlyen, Mr. Sikorski, and Mr. Scholz are all experienced BACC members, and have each agreed to serve another 3-year term on the Committee.

A similar request has been made to the Town of Richmond Hill in respect of its own appointed representatives to the BACC.
