	SUBJECT:	Grant Request - Arya Samaj Senior Citizens' Club

RECOMMENDATION:

THAT Council approve the request for financial support from Arya Samaj Senior Citizens’ Club in the amount of $1000.00 to support their event to be held on June 12, 2005.

PURPOSE:

To support the Arya Samaj Senior Citizens’ Club request for financial support in the funding of their seniors event to be held on June 12, 2005.

BACKGROUND:

The Clerk’s Department received a request for financial support in the amount of $2000.00 from the Arya Samaj Senior Citizens’ Club to support their senior’s event on June 12, 2005(see Appendix “A”).

Arya Samaj Senior Citizens’ Club, Markham has been celebrating June as the Seniors’ Month. This year they are holding an event on June 12, 2005 as the Seniors’ Day. On this day, the Club will be recognizing the contributions seniors continue to make within families and the community.

In 2003, Council approved a $2000.00 grant for their event. The Town’s grant policy provides for financial assistance to a maximum of $1000.00 where there is support from a Member of Council or a Senior Town staff. Staff is recommending that Council support the Arya Samaj Senior Citizens’ Club with a grant in the amount of $1000.00.

FINANCIAL CONSIDERATIONS:

Funds are available in the Council Grants and Sponsorship, Account No. 220 2207802
