	SUBJECT:	2006 COUNCIL/COMMITTEE MEETING CALENDAR

RECOMMENDATION:

That Council consider Appendix A and Appendix B attached to this report in selecting the 2006 calendar of council and standing committee meetings;

And that the selection of Council, be approved and implemented.

PURPOSE:

To present two 2006 council and standing committee meeting calendars for the consideration of Council and to obtain approval of one for implementation.

BACKGROUND:

Each year calendars of council and standing committee meetings for the upcoming year are presented for the consideration and approval of Council.

OPTIONS/DISCUSSION:

The proposed 2006 calendars mirror the 2005 calendar with some exceptions:

• General Committee meetings are scheduled the first and third Monday of each month beginning at 9:30 am, with some exceptions.

• Development Services Committee meetings are scheduled the first and third Tuesday of each month beginning at 11:00 am, with some exceptions.

• Committee of the Whole meetings are scheduled the second and fourth Tuesday of each month beginning at 5:00 pm, with some exceptions.

• Council meetings are scheduled the second and fourth Tuesday of each month beginning at 7:00 pm, with some exceptions.

• As a result of the municipal election on November 13, 2006, no council/standing committee meetings are scheduled for the weeks of October 30^th, November 6^th and November 13^th. The inaugural meeting of the new Council is scheduled for December 5^th at 7:30 pm.

• Due to a decrease in volume, Licensing Committee Hearings are only scheduled once a month in 2006, on the fourth Monday beginning at 9:00 am, with some exceptions.

• Markham Enterprises Corporation meetings are scheduled once a quarter prior to Committee of the Whole and Council.

Dates of Note in Appendix A Calendar

• In order to accommodate Easter Monday, General Committee falls back to back on April 24^th and May 1^st.

• General Committee falls on Monday, June 5^th, however, this is the last day of the FCM Conference.

• Summer recess ends with General Committee on August 28^th. The first Development Services Committee meeting of the fall session is on September 5^th.

Dates of Note in Appendix B Calendar

• In order to accommodate Easter Monday, General Committee falls back to back on April 24^th and May 1^st.

• Summer recess ends with General Committee on August 21^st, Development Services Committee on August 22^nd, and Council on August 29^th.

• To accommodate Labour Day, General Committee is scheduled on September 11^th, the day before Council.
