WASTE MANAGEMENT REPORT     September 29/05

As you will note from my report committee Jan.2005 the question of condo and apartment dwellers recycling keeps recurring.  Apartment dwellers in TORONTO WERE CURRENTLY DIVERTING ONLY 12% in one million of the population.

The week of September 19-23, Toronto put green bins into the above dwellers hands and is insisting on achieving their target of 60%.

This is indeed proactive.

With our new Town Centre in progress perhaps we as a group should meet with Claudia and report back to the committee to assure safeguards are in place.  We should inquire if   there is information available of the effect of the new green bin and blue box program as of July 2005 is available.

Support the people involved in the effects of the BIG PIPE in area 1 of Markham – lawsuit is proceeding.  The supporters of continuing on the pipe will not let anyone speak about phase one and you are practically gagged (3 meetings).  Erin Shapiro has been drawing people’s attention to the Robinson Creek problem this summer and should be commended for her efforts. This is major disaster environmentally low water and greatly rising temperatures. The cause is not totally because of the hot/dry temperatures

This summer.  I personally check 3-4 times a week.

Could we as a conservation advisory committee pursue this energy friendly method? Expert Ted Cowan /Federation of Agriculture could be contacted about a presentation “Farming The Wind” Perhaps Brent could send a letter from MCAC asking him about addressing our group.
