SUBJECT:

Tender Award # 176-T-05 Construction of Swan Lake  Park

 

 

 

 

 

RECOMMENDATION:

THAT the report entitled “Tender Award # 176-T-05 Construction of Swan Lake Park” dated November 21, 2005, be received;

 

AND THAT the contract for Tender #176-T-05 Construction of Swan Lake Park be awarded to the lowest priced bidder, Rutherford Contracting Ltd. in the amount of $521,896.46, excluding  GST;

 

AND THAT $40,000.00 be approved and set aside in the budget for design and construction contingency purposes for the Swan Lake Park and that the Manager of Parks and Open Space Development and the Treasurer be authorized to approve any required contingency items up to the construction contingency amount;

 

AND THAT $13,212.00 be charged to Swan Lake Park Phase 5 (account #81-5350-6258-005) for internal contract fees;

 

AND THAT Council approve the total cost for this project, as follows:

Provisional items – Credit                                        ($   20,159.20)

Construction Contingency                                        $   40,000.00

AND THAT funding for this project be provided from Swan Lake Park Phase 5 (account # 81-5350-6258-005) in the amount of  $575,108.46;

 

AND FURTHER THAT upon payment of all invoices for this project, any remaining funds in account #81-5350-6258-005 shall remain in that account to be used for future park works on Block 31 in Swan Lake Park.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        

PURPOSE:

To award contract for Tender # 176-T-05 Construction of  Swan Lake Park (Phase 5).

 

BACKGROUND:

This award is to construct a water play facility, junior and senior playground and gazebo area at the corner of Williamson Road and Swan Park Road in Greensborough. These facilities will complete the active recreation component of Swan Lake Community Park.

FINANCIAL CONSIDERATIONS:

 

In an attempt to identify certain cost savings, Provisional Item 2.0, Standard Concrete has been substituted for Part A, Item 1.10, Coloured Concrete which realizes a total savings of $20,159.20.

Staff recommend that funding for this project including the base bid, provisional items, construction contingency and internal contract fees be provided from Swan Lake Park Phase 5 (account # 81-5350-6258-005) in the amount of  $575,108.46.

 

Funding for this project is available in Capital Budget Account # 81-5350-6258-005. Currently the balance of approved funding in this account is $616,752.00 as of September 30, 2005. Remaining funds in this account after tender award and payment of all invoices shall remain for future park development works on Block 31 within Swan Lake Park.
