RECOMMENDATION:
THAT the report entitled Revised Town of Markham Halls – Alcohol Policy be
received;
AND THAT Council approve the addition of new facilities
as outlined in the report;
AND THAT in the future staff be authorized to add new
facilities to the policy as they open to the public;
AND FURTHER THAT the Town of Markham Halls – Alcohol Policy be revised
to reflect these changes.
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this report is to update the Town
of Markham Halls – Alcohol Policy to include the new facilities listing as well
as insurance requirements for permit holders of Town-owned facilities.
BACKGROUND:
After reviewing the Town of Markham Halls – Alcohol
Policy it was noted that the policy required revisions to include facilities
that are now under Recreation and Culture’s umbrella.

It is recommended that all the locations listed below be
identified as “Category C” locations and that Council approve special occasion
permits for these sites on a case-by-case basis.

(Jazz Festival has hosted events there in the past and Unionville Festival
moved one there this year)

Gazebos in parks
- the newer parks have Gazebo's and permits will be approved on a case-by-case
basis.
Permit Holder Liability Insurance
All Special Occasion Permit (SOP) holders must purchase
or provide proof that they have a minimum of $2,000,000 of liability insurance
for events. The Town of

A SOP holder must
show proof that they have personal liability insurance of $2,000,000 as part of
their own homeowner’s or a tenant’s insurance package.

Name the Town of
Public Alcohol Liability (PAL) Insurance is available
to clients who cannot provide insurance through their residential or commercial
insurance policy.
