3.   NEW BUSINESS

a)      Director’s report - John Ryerson reviewed his report; he encouraged members to take part in the proposed bus trip to the Albright Knox Gallery in Buffalo to view the Chinese art show; the official re-opening of the McKay House was a success and he asked that a formal letter of thanks be forwarded to Dave Tsubouchi for his efforts.  He went on to state that the Gallery is looking at getting a curator on contract for a time while Katerina is working on the Varley book; negotiations are ongoing with the Toronto School Board, Central Commerce, with a meeting slated for December 9 for a potential show of the works they have on site.  He also circulated a copy of the Town of Markham’s 2004 Annual Report, which contains a brief item on the Gallery having purchased 76 paintings in 2004.

b)   Art Auction, Acquisition, Art Policy – Negotiations are underway with several gallery operators with positive results; an auctioneer is confirmed (at no cost to the Gallery); a number of members of the Art Auction sub-committee will be meeting with the owner of a Gallery on Mount Pleasant Avenue in Toronto within the next weeks.  A more complete report will be made at the meeting in January.

Stan Neal advised of a number of paintings the Committee has been considering.  Following considerable discussion, it was agreed that an offer to purchase an A.Y. Jackson painting entitled “Algoma Landscape” be made at a price not to exceed $20,000.
