SUBJECT: 2006 Celebrate Markham Grants

RECOMMENDATION:

THAT THE report dated May 01, 2006 entitled "2006 Celebrate Markham Grants" be received;

AND THAT the Grants Sub-Committee’s proposed allocation of Celebrate Markham grants as shown on Appendix A be approved.

FINANCIAL CONSIDERATIONS:

The 2006 Budget for Celebrate Markham grants is $211,800. The Grants Sub-Committee has recommended allocating $210,800 to various events held in the Town (see Appendix A). The remaining $1,000 of unallocated grant funding is available for future Celebrate Markham grant requests.

PURPOSE:

The purpose of this report is to obtain approval for the allocation of the 2006 Celebrate Markham Grants.

BACKGROUND:

On February 14, 2006, Council approved the 2006 Budget which included Celebrate Markham grants in the amount of $211,800.

In accordance with the Grants and Sponsorship Guidelines, approved by Council in 2005, the level of funding for Celebrate Markham events is set during the business planning/budgeting process. Following the approval of the budget, Grants Sub-Committee will recommend funding allocations to specific events.

On April 13, 2006, the Grants Sub-Committee met and allocated $210,800 of the total $211,800 Celebrate Markham budget (as summarized in Appendix A).

OPTIONS/ DISCUSSION:

Appendix A identifies the 2005 Allocation (Budget) for each event, followed by the 2005 Actual, the Grants Sub-Committee’s Recommended allocation for 2006, and the 2006 funding request received from event organizers as of the date of the meeting (April 13^th).
