THAT the 2009 Annual Report from the Markham Fire and Emergency Services (MFES)

be received.

And that Staff be authorized and directed to do all things necessary to give effect to this resolution.

PURPOSE:

To provide information to Mayor and Members of Council on Markham Fire & Emergency Services activities in 2009.

BACKGROUND:

The 2009 Markham Fire & Emergency Services Annual Report highlights the department’s accomplishments and significant changes that occurred in 2009.

Some of these endeavors include:

• The appointment of the new Fire Chief and two new Deputy Fire Chiefs
• 15 new firefighter recruits to replace vacancies and retirements
• Construction of the Cathedral fire station 93 located at Major Mackenzie and Woodbine Ave.
• Launch of partnership with Fairchild Radio
• Markham Junior Fire Chief
