RECOMMENDATION:

That the following street names requested by Andrin Kennedy Homes for a townhouse condominium on the northeast corner of Kennedy Road and Castan Avenue (SC. 02-115271) be approved:

 

NAKINA WAY

WOLTNER WAY

ASH TREE LANE

 

PURPOSE:

The purpose of this report is to seek approval of the requested street names for use in a condominium development located at the northeast corner of Kennedy Road and Castan Avenue.

 

BACKGROUND:

The subject lands are located at the northeast corner of Kennedy Road and Castan Avenue (Figure 1).  The applicant has applied for a site plan application to permit a 55-unit townhouse development, and a rezoning application (preliminary report to March 4, 2003 DSC meeting) to permit service retail/commercial opportunities on the first floor of the 8 townhouses fronting onto Kennedy Road. 

 

Staff are currently in the process of giving site plan approval for 47 townhouse units, excluding 8 townhouse units which are subject to a rezoning application.  It should be noted that 5 of the proposed townhouses have frontage onto a public lane, similar to a previous site plan approved for these lands in 1998, which contemplated 16 townhouse units with frontage on a public lane (Figure 2). Staff consider the building location and design of the proposed townhouse development to be acceptable. The owner has requested approval of  “Nakina Way” and “Woltner Way” as street names for the townhouse condominium development, and “Ash Tree Lane” for the public lane (Figure 2).

 

FINANCIAL CONSIDERATIONS:

There are no financial matters to be considered in this report.

 

BUSINESS UNITS CONSULTED AND AFFECTED:

The Fire Department and the Region of York were both consulted in the review of the requested street names.
