1.         ENGINEERING

At the last Markham Centre Steering Committee meeting, staff was directed to provide  information regarding fill and grading, and the transition to the valley edge.

Andrew Ip of Masongsong Associates, representing the Remington Group, made a presentation regarding the 82 ha. Remington lands. Approximately 2.2 mil m² of fill will be required for the lands, with an average fill height of 2.8 metres. Mr. Ip detailed the constraints of the property and the slopes, buffers, and proposed location of stormwater management ponds. Regional flood levels dictate the grading levels required.

Committee requested a volumetrics model be prepared for the area, visually illustrating the elevations of the valleylands and adjacent roads and buildings.

A greenlands implementation plan is anticipated to be included in the 2005 Capital Budget, and will be prepared by a Town consultant.

Moved by: Regional Councillor B. O’Donnell

Seconded by: Deputy Mayor F. Scarpitti

2.         MARKHAM CENTRE THEME

At the last Markham Centre Steering Committee meeting, staff was directed to provide  information regarding the design and style of Markham Centre.

Staff provided images from Markham Centre proposals over the past 10 years illustrating the endorsed character and architecture concepts. There are a significant number of tools available to control and deliver the quality of built form and open space - 1994 Markham Centre Vision, OPA 21, Precinct Plan, Performance Measures, Zoning By-laws, Site Plan Control, and Markham Centre Streetscape Standards.

Committee emphasised that the design concept should be consistent, and reflective of the  high-quality statement intended for that area. A visual demonstration of what is being considered was requested.

Rudy Buczolits of the Remington Group advised that the principles have been established for the overall architecture, but the details have not been determined. They will be presented to the Committee when available.

Committee requested a future meeting dedicated to this issue. A future discussion was also requested regarding parking, including the concept of replacing separate parking structures by adding a parking level for each building.

Moved by: Deputy Mayor F. Scarpitti

Seconded by: Regional Councillor B. O’Donnell

That the presentation regarding Markham Centre designs, be received.
