RECOMMENDATION:
THAT pursuant to the Conservation Review Board
recommendation dated September 22, 2004, Council pass the attached by-law (Appendix
‘C’) designating the Menno Raymer House at 9404 Highway 48 under Part IV of the
Ontario Heritage Act.
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this report is to advise Council
of the Conservation Review Board’s findings and recommendations with respect to
the Town of Markham’s intention to designate the Menno Raymer House at 9404
Highway 48 as a property of cultural heritage value and interest under Part IV
of the Ontario Heritage Act.
BACKGROUND:
Council recommended the subject property for heritage designation
On
The Owner filed an objection to the Intention to Designate, triggering
the need to hold a hearing before the Conservation Review Board
Pursuant to Section 29(8) of the Ontario
Heritage Act, R.S.O. 1990, Chapter 0.18 (as amended), the Conservation
Review Board held a hearing in the Town of Markham on September 22, 2004,
concerning Council’s Intention to Designate 9404 Highway 48, The Menno Raymer
House, under Part IV of the Act.

THAT
Heritage Markham recommends to Council that the findings of the Conservation
Review Board with respect to 9404 Highway 48 be accepted, and a by-law be
passed to designate the property under the Ontario Heritage Act. (See

CONSIDERATIONS:
Heritage designation helps to
achieve a quality community by recognizing, promoting and protecting a heritage
resource, which strengthens the sense of community.
BUSINESS UNITS CONSULTED AND AFFECTED:
Acceptance of this recommendation to pass the
by-law designating 9404 Highway 48 under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act
will require the Clerk’s Department to complete the designation process and
initiate the registration of the designation by-law on the property title.
