RECOMMENDATION:
That Heritage Markham’s
recommendation to designate the Almira Flour
and Woollen Mill at
And That the Clerks
Department be authorized to:
·
publish and serve Council’s Notice of Intention to Designate as per the
requirements of the Act; and,
·
prepare the Designation By-law for this property.
PURPOSE:
To
recommend to Council that the Almira Flour and Woollen Mill at
4160 19th Avenue be designated under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act.
BACKGROUND:
Owners support designation of Almira Flower and Woolen Mill
The owners of the property
at
OPTIONS/DISCUSSION:
The Almira Flour
and Woollen Mill is a significant heritage
building
The Almira Flour and Woollen Mill is listed on the Markham Inventory of Heritage
Buildings. The building is a good
example of a 19th Century Mill Structure which was restored and
reconstructed in the 1980s after suffering severe damage in a fire in the
1940s. Although much of the mill has
been re-built, a substantial portion of the original structure has been
retained. The reconstructed and restored
mill serves as an important landmark of the historic community of Almira. An outline of the heritage attributes of the
dwelling in support of its designation is included in the Heritage
It is recommended that the Almira Flour and Woollen Mill at

of intention to designate the property as per the requirements of the Act; and,

prepare the Designation By-law for the Almira Flour and Woollen Mill at
