York Technology Association Sponsorship

 

 

 


 

 

RECOMMENDATION:

That the report entitled “York Technology Association Sponsorship” be received,

 

AND THAT the Town renew its annual corporate sponsorship at a cost of $5,000 plus GST,

 

AND THAT this expenditure be funded from within the Economic Development Business Development account #610-9985808.

 

 

BACKGROUND:

The Town of Markham has been an active supporter of the York Technology Association (YTA) for the past twenty years. The YTA has been a strategic cornerstone in the successful of Markham’s reputation as “Canada’s High-Tech Capital”. A strong and growing YTA helps Markham competitiveness in attracting and keeping technology companies by:

 

  • Being a credible and respected high-tech industry led association
  • Showcasing the depth and sophistication of the Markham area high-tech cluster
  • Providing local high-tech companies with a dynamic source of information sharing and peer-to-peer networking opportunities
  • Providing local governments with the opportunity to meet and partner with high-tech companies.

 

Since 1998, the Town has been a corporate sponsor of the YTA, in return for which the Town receives the following benefits:

 

  • 24 prepaid lunch tickets
  • Website listing and hot link
  • Town’s logo on YTA letterhead and all YTA advertising
  • Town’s logo on YTA banner at lunches and events
  • Podium time as a speaker and introducer/moderator at events
  • Golf tournament hole sponsorship

 

As a YTA corporate sponsor, the Town of Markham is joined by IBM, Bell, Deloitte, Wilson Vukelich, York University, CIBC, Seneca College, and the Town of Richmond Hill.

 

 

 

FINANCIAL CONSIDERATIONS:

This expenditure is part of the 2005 Economic Development Marketing Plan, and is funded from within the approved Business Development account #610-9985808 base budget.

 

 

ENGAGE 21ST CONSIDERATIONS:

Town sponsorship of the York Technology Association is consistent with the corporate vision of being the leading high-tech community in Canada.
