PRESERVATION OPTIONS – JOSHUA
MILLER HOUSE
10192 NINTH LINE (16.11)
Extracts: R. Hutcheson,
Manager of Heritage Planning_________________
The
Manager of Heritage Planning reiterated staff’s concern about the preservation
of the existing dwelling, its deteriorated state, the amount of money that
would be needed to properly relocate and restore the structure for use at the
Museum, and the opportunity of having the dwelling relocated to Markham
Heritage Estates by a private individual.
The Manager asked the Committee to examine the situation from the
perspective of what is the best course of action for the heritage resource at
this point in time, and consider its relocation to Markham Heritage
Estates.
The Friends of the Joshua Miller House made a brief presentation. David Haldenby and Ann Marie Waine spoke to
the group’s work to date – a business plan is being prepared for presentation
to the Markham Museum Board on June 9 where their case will be made for the
Miller House’s preservation as it was originally built and having it located on
the Museum grounds. It was indicated
that the Friends group currently has about 10 members. There followed considerable discussion on
various options and it was agreed that any decision would be deferred until
after the June 9th Museum meeting.
HERITAGE

Heritage Markham commends the Friends of the Joshua Miller House group for its
interest in preserving the subject dwelling and that the group should be given
