2.         UPDATE ON VARLEY GALLERY, COMMUNITIES
            IN BLOOM (CIB) EVENT,
SUNDAY APRIL 17, 2005

Ms. D. Castello informed Members that the Markham Public Art Advisory Committee (MPAAC) was successfully launched at the Sunday, April 17th Communities in Bloom (CIB) event. Ms. L. Irvine agreed that Ms. Castello represented MPAAC very well and delivered a wonderful speech on the Committee’s behalf.

Members agreed that an additional launch event be organized specifically for MPAAC to increase the Committee‘s profile and further promote the Environmental Art Event. Ms. Irvine illustrated a promotional poster. Members suggested that it be displayed at Markham libraries, community centres and businesses, pending approval. Mr. J. Ryerson advised that a dedicated web page and news release would assist in further publicizing the event.

Members discussed possible dates for the MPAAC launch and tentatively agreed that it be held the weekend of May 28th, 2005 at the Varley Art Gallery.

3.         ENVIRONMENTAL ART EVENT UPDATE

Ms. L. Irvine submitted a list of proposals received to date and highlighted the artist‘s background and relevant works. Members discussed the April 30, 2005 deadline for artist submissions and agreed that due to the time restrictions, the subcommittee should meet to select the appropriate candidates.

Ms. A. Gauci recommended that illustrations of the proposed installation sites be made accessible for potential artists from out of town. Ms. Irvine agreed to provide this material to those candidates selected.

THE MARKHAM PUBLIC ART ADVISORY COMMITTEE RECOMMENDS:
