HERITAGE MARKHAM RECOMMENDS:

 

THAT Heritage Markham adopt the revised window policy document for new construction as proposed by Heritage Section staff.

8.         INFORMATION
DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS FOR PROPOSED JOHN STREET BRIDGE REPLACEMENT (16.11)

The Manager of Heritage Planning gave a presentation on this matter.

 

HERITAGE MARKHAM RECOMMENDS:

 

THAT Heritage Markham supports the construction of a sidewalk on the north side of the John Street Bridge and adding line painting along the north and south gutter lines of the bridge deck;

 

AND THAT Heritage Markham supports the widening of the bridge by a maximum of two metres from its current width;

 

AND THAT Heritage Markham requests the Ward Councillor to explore the possibility of using a more traditional concrete mix with granite aggregate and the inclusion of a wheat sheaf design in the concrete sidewalk.

            PROPOSED RE-CLADDING OF CUPOLA

            ST. DIMITRIJI SOLUNSKI MACEDONIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH

            201 MAIN STREET NORTH

            MARKHAM VILLAGE HERITAGE CONSERVATION DISTRICT(16.11)

The Senior Heritage Planner gave a presentation on this application.

 

Mr. Tony Gadzovski, Architect, addressed the Heritage Markham Committee on behalf of the St. Dimitriji Solunski Macedonian Orthodox Church, and presented drawings of the proposed renovations to the exterior of the church.

 

HERITAGE MARKHAM RECOMMENDS:

 

THAT Heritage Markham has no objection to the proposed re-cladding of the cupola and knee walls of St. Dimitriji's Church, 201 Main Street North;

 

AND THAT Heritage Section staff be delegated approval authority for a future Heritage Permit to implement the fully developed plan.

            PROPOSED ALTERATIONS AND REAR ADDITION

Mr. and Mrs. Mark and Elizabeth White addressed the Heritage Markham Committee in support of this application.

 

HERITAGE MARKHAM RECOMMENDS:

 

THAT Heritage Markham refer the proposed design for the addition and remodeling of 9 Euclid Street to the Architectural Review Sub-Committee for consideration and a site visit.

12.       DEMOLITION OF 94 JOHN STREET (16.11)

Councillor Burke advised the Heritage Markham Committee that the Development Services Committee on June 19, 2007, will be considering an application to demolish 94 John Street and suggested that a representative of the Heritage Markham Committee should attend that meeting to support the Committee's opposition to the demolition of the property.

 

HERITAGE MARKHAM RECOMMENDS:

 

THAT Judith Dawson be authorized to represent the Heritage Markham Committee at the Development Services Committee meeting on June 19, 2007, in opposition to the demolition of 94 John Street.

13.       DOORS OPEN MARKHAM (16.11)

Susan Casella gave an update on the Doors Open Markham event which is taking place on August 25 and 26, 2007, and advised that volunteers are still needed to assist with the event.

14.       UPDATE ON PLANNING FOR TOMORROW 2007

            REGION OF YORK REGION GROWTH MANAGEMENT STRATEGY

            PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT AND CONSULTATION PROCESS (16.11)

Councillor Burke advised the Heritage Markham Committee that the Development Services Committee at its meeting on June 12, 2007, received the minutes of the Heritage Markham Committee meeting held on May 9, 2007, and requested that staff report back to Development Services Committee on the following resolution of Heritage Markham Committee:

 

“That Council request the Region of York to identify the protection of built heritage as a goal in its Planning for Tomorrow 2007 Public Consultation Process on the York Region Preliminary Draft Sustainability Strategy: Towards a Sustainable Region.”

 

The Manager of Heritage Planning advised that he will be preparing the requested report for submission to the Development Services Committee.

THAT Heritage Markham receive this item for information.

15.       QUORUM FOR HERITAGE MARKHAM COMMITTEE DURING THE

            MONTHS OF JULY AND AUGUST (16.11)

Susan Casella recommended that the quorum requirement for the Heritage Markham Committee during the summer months of July and August be reduced.

 

HERITAGE MARKHAM RECOMMENDS:

 

THAT Heritage Markham recommends that the quorum requirement for the Heritage Markham Committee during the months of July and August be reduced from six members to five members.

16.       SCHEDULING OF SPECIAL MEETING

            HERITAGE MARKHAM COMMITTEE (16.11)

The Manager of Heritage Planning advised the members present that he will canvass the other members of the Heritage Markham Committee with a view to scheduling a special meeting to be held at the same time as the next Architectural Review Sub-Committee in order to ratify the informal recommendations from this meeting.
