DATE OF MEETING:

2003-Sep-29

SUBJECT:

Manhattan Drive Parking Prohibition

RECOMMENDATION:

THAT Schedule 1 of Parking By-law 336-88, be amended to include a No Parking Prohibition on Manhattan Drive, from the south leg of Burndenford Crescent to a point 170 metres north to the property line of #176 and #178 Manhattan Drive;

AND THAT the attached by-laws be approved;

AND THAT the Operations and Asset Management Department be directed to install the appropriate signs upon approval of the attached by-law.

PURPOSE:

The purpose of this report is to recommend a No Parking Prohibition on Manhattan Drive.

BACKGROUND:

The Traffic Division received a request to implement a No Parking Prohibition on Manhattan Drive, adjacent to Lincoln Park.  The issue is that vehicles are parking on both sides of the street, restricting two-directional traffic flow to one lane.

OPTIONS/DISCUSSION:

Manhattan Drive is a local collector street located between McCowan Road and Carlton Road.  Traffic Division reviewed the request and performed a parking study.  Study results showed that parked vehicles on both sides of the street are compromising two-directional traffic operations.  This is especially prevalent during softball games during the summer season.  By prohibiting parking on the west side of the street, two-directional traffic will be maintained.

Notification of the proposed prohibition has been distributed by mail to the affected residents of Manhattan Drive.

FINANCIAL CONSIDERATIONS:

The cost of labour and materials to implement these parking measures are accounted for in the 2003 budget for the Operations and Asset Management Department.

BUSINESS UNITS CONSULTED AND AFFECTED:

Subject to Council’s approval the Operations and Asset Management Department will install the proper signage for the proposed No Parking Prohibition on Manhattan Drive.
