DATE OF MEETING:

SUBJECT:

Trail Ridge Lane Parking Prohibition

RECOMMENDATION:

THAT Schedule 1 of Parking By-law 336-88, be amended to include a No Parking Prohibition on the south side of Trail Ridge Lane, from McCowan Road to Twin Oaks Drive;

AND THAT the attached by-laws be approved;

AND THAT the Operations and Asset Management Department be directed to install the appropriate signs upon approval of the attached by-law.

PURPOSE:

The purpose of this report is to recommend a No Parking Prohibition on Trail Ridge Lane.

BACKGROUND:

The Traffic Division received a request to investigate on-street parking activities occurring on Trail Ridge Lane.  The concern is that vehicles are parking on both sides of the street, restricting two-directional traffic flow to one lane.

OPTIONS/DISCUSSION:

Trail Ridge Lane is a local residential street located between McCowan Road and The Bridle Walk.  Traffic Division reviewed the request and performed a parking study.  Study results showed that parked vehicles on both sides of the street are compromising two-directional traffic operations during evenings and weekends between McCowan Road and Twin Oaks Drive.  Along this section of Trail Ridge Lane, homes on the north side do not have driveways.  These homes have garages at the rear of the property that are serviced by a laneway, which does not permit parking.  By prohibiting parking on the south side of Trail Ridge Lane, parking will be permitted on the north side only, maintaining two-directional traffic.

Notification of the proposed prohibition has been distributed by mail to the affected residents of Trail Ridge Lane.

FINANCIAL CONSIDERATIONS:

The cost of labour and materials to implement these parking measures are accounted for in the 2003 budget for the Operations and Asset Management Department.

BUSINESS UNITS CONSULTED AND AFFECTED:

Subject to Council’s approval the Operations and Asset Management Department will install the proper signage for the proposed No Parking Prohibition on Trail Ridge Lane.
