The Inaugural Meeting of Council convened at 7:20 PM on December 7, 2018 in the Flato Markham Theatre.

Kimberley Kitteringham, City Clerk, called the meeting to order.

(2) LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Suzanne Smoke and Cedar Smoke delivered the Land Acknowledgement.

(3) CANADA'S NATIONAL ANTHEM O CANADA (16.23)

Julia Gartha sang Canada's National Anthem O Canada.

Imām Yūsuf Badāt delivered the inaugural prayer.

The Honourable Alan Diner administered the Oath of Office to the Mayor.

(7) PRESENTATION OF CHAIN OF OFFICE (16.23)

Elsie Roman, wife of late former Markham Mayor Tony Roman, presented the Chain of Office to Mayor Frank Scarpitti.

Mayor Frank Scarpitti assumed the Chair.

(8) OATH OF OFFICE – MEMBERS OF COUNCIL (16.23)

The Honourable Alan Diner administered the Oath of Office to the Members of Council.

(9) REMARKS BY MEMBERS OF COUNCIL (16.23)

Members of Council delivered their respective remarks.

(10) MUSICAL PERFORMANCE (16.23)

Julia Gartha delivered two musical numbers – Can't Change an original song and Don't Stop by Fleetwood Mac.

(11) MAYOR'S INAUGURAL ADDRESS (16.23)

Appendix A

Mayor Frank Scarpitti welcomed all assembled guests to the Inaugural Meeting of Council and acknowledged the dignitaries and former Members of Council of the City of Markham that were in attendance.

Mayor Frank Scarpitti gave his Inaugural Address, attached as Appendix “A”. Mayor Scarpitti introduced his family members and special guests, and thanked them for their ongoing support. He thanked Members of the City of Markham Senior Management Team.

Mayor Frank Scarpitti thanked Julia Gartha, Imām Yūsuf Badāt, the Honourable Alan Diner, Suzanne Smoke, Cedar Smoke, and all assembled guest in attendance for their participation at the Inaugural Council Meeting.

Mayor Scarpitti thanked Lorraine Li, Special Assistant to the Mayor for planning and organizing a memorable Inaugural Council Meeting.

The Mayor also thanked Kimberley Kitteringham, Clerk for the City of Markham and staff from the Clerks Department and from the Corporate Communications & Community Relations Department for their contribution to the Inaugural Council Meeting.

(12) CONFIRMATORY BY-LAW
