(6) PRESENTATION
OF CHAIN OF OFFICE (16.23)

Kitteringham, City Clerk, presented the Chain of Office to Mayor Frank
Scarpitti.
Mayor Frank
Scarpitti assumed the Chair.
(7) 220TH
ANNIVERSARY OF MARKHAM (16.23)
Mayor Frank
Scarpitti introduced Lorne Smith, City of Markham's Official Historian. Mr. Smith provided a historical perspective
on the 220th Anniversary of Markham.
David Burkholder, Vice-President for the Reesor Family in Canada,
presented a genealogy book to Council titled "Reesor Family in
Canada".

OF MEMBERS OF COUNCIL (16.23)
Mayor Frank
Scarpitti introduced Members of Council and extended congratulations on their
recent election.
Each Ward
Councillor and Regional Councillor introduced and thanked their family members
and special guests, including their election teams.
(9) PERFORMANCE
BY PHIL AND DEBBIE HOWES (16.23)
Phil and
Debbie Howes provided a musical performance.

INAUGURAL ADDRESS (16.23)

Scarpitti welcomed all assembled guests to the Inaugural Meeting of Council and
acknowledged the dignitaries and former Members of Council of the City of Markham
that were in attendance.
Mayor Frank
Scarpitti gave his Inaugural Address, attached as Appendix “A”. Mayor Scarpitti introduced his family members
and special guests, and thanked them for their ongoing support. He thanked Members of the City of Markham
Senior Management Team and highlighted some of the many achievements during the
2010 - 2014 term of Council.

OF DEPUTY MAYOR – JACK HEATH (16.23)

That Regional
Councillor Jack Heath be appointed as Deputy Mayor for a term of office to
expire November 30, 2018.

Scarpitti thanked Shaina Sammone, Father Marcos, the Honourable Alan
Diner, Lorne Smith, David Burkeholder, Phil and Debbie Howes and all assembled
guest in attendance for their participation at the Inaugural Council Meeting.
Mayor Scarpitti
thanked Lorraine Li, Special Assistant to the Mayor for planning and organizing
a memorable Inaugural Council Meeting.
The Mayor also
thanked Kimberley Kitteringham, Clerk for the City of Markham and staff from
the Clerks Department, Diane Samek, Senior Advisor Marketing &
Communications and staff from Corporate Communications & Community
Relations Department and Michelle Gibbons from the Mayor’s Office for their
contribution to the Inaugural Council Meeting.
