“Whereas
the Town of Markham expressed grave concerns and condolences to everyone
involved in or affected by the terrorist attacks on New York City and
Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, September 11, 2001;
And whereas the Markham Race Relations Committee,
during this period of incomprehensible inhumanity, is very concerned that we
support each other within our culturally diverse community, a community that is
aware of the backlash against certain groups as a result of the recent tragedy;
Therefore
the Markham Race Relations Committee requests Council to take proactive
measures to do all in its power to promote understanding, mutual acceptance and
a peaceful society and to urge all residents of the Town of Markham to be
vigilant and to respect the rights and freedoms of all residents at all times.”
And that the Town
of Markham will continue to promote understanding, mutual acceptance and a
peaceful society and urges all residents of the Town of Markham to respect the

And further that
