Council Meeting for Community Recognition convened at 7:00 p.m. on September
30, 2013 in the Council Chamber. Mayor
Frank Scarpitti presided.
On behalf of
Council, Mayor Frank Scarpitti welcomed members of the public to the Special
Council Meeting for Community Recognition.
He noted the purpose of the meeting is to recognize and celebrate
individuals who have made contributions to the community of Markham.

Council presented, on behalf of the City of
Markham, FLAP Canada and Convenience Group Inc., a Certificate of Recognition
to the Hilton Suites Hotel & Conference Centre for their outstanding environmental leadership and contribution to
urban wildlife sustainability.
Hilton Suites Hotel & Conference Centre is
the first local business in Markham to volunteer to install bird deterrent
technology to their Tranquility Garden windows; this technology is designed to
alert birds to the presence of windows, effectively reducing bird collisions
with buildings.

to Council to be applied against the operating costs of the Markham Seniors
Activity Centre.

Thornhill Seniors Club, presented a cheque in the amount of $34,625.00 to
Council to be applied against the operating costs of the Thornhill Seniors
Centre.
