The Special
Council Meeting for Community Recognition convened at 7:12 PM on January 29,
2014 in the Council Chamber. Mayor Frank
Scarpitti presided.
On behalf of
Council, Mayor Frank Scarpitti welcomed members of the public to the Special
Council Meeting for Community Recognition.
He noted the purpose of the meeting is to recognize and celebrate
individuals who have made contributions to the community of Markham.

Mayor and
Members of Council observed a moment of silence for the victims of the deadly
fire at the senior residence, Residence du Havre in L'Isle-Verte, Quebec.

LEHMAN (12.2.6)
Council presented the
Friends of the Markham Museum Board Ted Scaysbrook Memorial Award to Clyde
Lehman for his outstanding volunteer service to the Markham Museum.
Ms. Jean Scaysbrook was in attendance.

HERITAGE MARKHAM AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE (12.2.6)

recognized the following winners of the 2014 Heritage Markham Awards of
Excellence:
1. David Rawcliffe - For
many years of work to preserve and promote historic Thornhill.
2. Judy Dawson-Ryan on behalf of Brian Ryan - For many years of
work to promote historic Thornhill through the Thornhill Festival.
3. Elizabeth Hudson - For good stewardship
of historic Red Cottage, 14 Colborne Street, Thornhill.
4. Baldath Rampersad - For the restoration of the Victoria
Square Schoolhouse, 10137 Woodbine Avenue.
5. Elena Cesaroni on behalf of Sam Cesaroni, Cesaroni Holdings
Inc. - For restoration and a complementary
addition to the Hatton-Baker House, 10761 Woodbine Avenue, Victoria Square.
6. David
and Joanne Johnston - For the restoration of Buttercup House, 15 George Street,
Markham Village.
7. Roger
Kortschot - For the restoration of the Billing House, 33 Joseph Street, Markham
Village.

Luong - For a complementary addition to the
Monkhouse Residence, 8 Peter Street, Mount Joy.
9. Leroy and Anna Poelstra - For restoration of the early 20th

awards and co-presented the award to the winners.
