The Environment & Transportation Committee convened at the hour of 1:05 p.m. with Regional Councillor G. Landon in the Chair.

1.         TRANSIT STRATEGY
            LEA CONSULTING LTD. (5.14)

 

Mr. John Long, President, LEA Consulting Ltd., was in attendance and made a presentation with respect to light rail transit strategy options for the Town of Markham.  Mr. Dave Saunders, Vice-President, LEA Consulting Ltd. was also in attendance.

 

Following a brief discussion, Committee requested further information and detailed statistics regarding: a) the Finch Avenue/Hydro corridor vs the Highway #7 corridor; and b) phasing strategies.

 


 

 

2.         UNIONVILLE TRAFFIC INFILTRATION
            BA CONSULTING (5.14)

 

Mr. Chris Middlebrough of BA Consulting Group was in attendance and presented a brief status report on risk assessment regarding traffic infiltration in Unionville, specifically options for north/south collector connections to Highway #7: Verclair Gate, Village Parkway, and Sciberras Road.

 

Ms. Mary-Francis Turner, Commissioner of Development Services, distributed copies of a draft motion that would be tabled at the Council Meeting, this date with respect to the ‘Sciberras Road South Precinct Plan’.  (Following the meeting of Committee, Members reviewed the draft motion and made minor amendments for presentation to Council.)

 

Mr. Nick Poulos, of Poulos & Chung Ltd., was in attendance, and advised Members about a document that is available that speaks to the issue of the Highway #7 corridor entitled "GO Alert".

 

 

3.         WARDEN AVENUE ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT
            COLE SHERMAN (5.14)

 

Mr. Peter Cholewa and Mr. Scott Thornburn of Cole Sherman & Associates Ltd. were in attendance and presented an overview of their study of the Warden Avenue Class Environmental Assessment from Steeles Avenue to Major Mackenzie Drive.  Mr. Paul Jankowski, Director of Design and Construction, and Mr. Len Munt, Chief Forester, Region of York, were also in attendance as resource.
