The Inaugural meeting of Council for the 2022-2026 Term convened at 7:19 PM on November 15, 2022 in the Hilton Markham Suites Conference Centre.

Kimberley Kitteringham, City Clerk, called the meeting to order.

INDIGENOUS LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Kimberley Kitteringham, City Clerk, delivered the land acknowledgement.

Elder Garry Sault of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation provided a blessing of the land.

Quisha Wint sang Canada’s National Anthem “O Canada.”

Reverend Coward delivered the inaugural prayer.

Kimberley Kitteringham, City Clerk, introduced the various guests in attendance including:

The Honourable Regional Senior Justice Leonard Ricchetti administered the Oath of Office to the Mayor.

Kimberley Kitteringham, City Clerk, presented the Chain of Office to Mayor Frank Scarpitti. Mayor Frank Scarpitti assumed the Chair.

The Honourable Regional Senior Justice Leonard Ricchetti administered the Oath of Office to the Members of Council.

Members of Council delivered their respective remarks. A pre-recorded video message was provided by Councillor Reid McAlpine who was absent from the meeting.

Mayor Frank Scarpitti's Inaugural Address (markham.ca)

Mayor Frank Scarpitti welcomed all assembled guests to the Inaugural Meeting of Council and acknowledged the dignitaries and former Members of Council of the City of Markham that were in attendance.

Mayor Scarpitti gave his Inaugural Address, attached as [Appendix “A”].  He introduced his family members and special guests, and thanked them for their ongoing support.  He thanked Members of the City of Markham Senior Management Team.

The Mayor also thanked Kimberley Kitteringham, Clerk for the City of Markham and staff from the Legislative Services Department and from Corporate Communications & Community Relations for their contribution to the Inaugural Council Meeting.

Quisha Wint performed “All Night Long”.

  • That By-law 2023-1 be given three readings and enacted.
